It’s been a while since we last blogged (3 months!) as our trip from this point onwards passed far too quickly. It’s great to go back in time and write about our best memories whilst doing one of our favorite activities – brunching and blogging.
We arrived into Sydney expecting to be confronted by a ‘mega city’, instead we found a city full of character, surrounded by water, wildlife, parks and great food! We liked Sydney a lot.

We stayed in a little studio apartment in Potts Point – a 20 minute walk down a hill and through the botanical gardens into the CBD. Also known a ‘little france’ it was near to some fab restaurants and cute boutique shops. We spent 6 happy days here exploring the major sights.
The botanical gardens were a great spot to relax, explore and have a picnic, take in the views over to the CBD, opera house and that famous bridge. The birds in the park aren’t your average pigeons and blackbirds, but cockatoos, ibis, cormorant, rainbow lorikeets. Then at night the bats come out, as do the Possums.

After being confronted by a possum on our first day in Australia, hearing them referred to as vermin and then seeing Possum furs for sale (they like to shoot them in NZ!) we hadn’t thought much of them, however we made many Possum friends in the botanic gardens – they’re very cute!
We did a guided walking tour of Sydney, which was a good background to the city and introduced us to some of the quirks which we wouldn’t have found on our own, such as the talking statue of Queen Victoria’s favorite dog, a letter from the queen which can only be opened in 70 years time and the background on the famous opera house.
We made it out to 2 of Sydney’s many beaches – Bondi and Manly. Bondi was the favorite, partly because it was windy on the day we visited Manly – wind and sand aren’t a good mix. The lifeguards really did look like they do on Baywatch (not quite as glam)
Our favorite experience had to be the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb though. Not for the faint hearted, it involved climbing through tight spaces under the trail tracks and walking on the exposed bridge side. The views were amazing and watching the sun set over a 360 degree view of the city was something we won’t forget.
