Our last day in KL involved us not setting our alarm for the first time, as we’d surely slept off the long journey and adapted to the new timezone (7 hours ahead). Nope- we woke up at lunchtime!
We walked across the park for an Ozzie style bruch, then went to the bird park-rated as one of the top attractions in KL. It was significant in size and nice to see some of the birds able to fly around freely.
Malaysian birds are much bigger and more colourful here!
This chappy nearly landed on my head after I took this video ?
Later on we headed out to a swanky steak restaurant called Marble8 for dinner-our first treat meal of the trip and great way to end our stint in KL.
It was a 3 hour flight over to Kota Kinabalu which is the capital of the Malaysian part of Borneo, named Sabah. Chris had a long chat to the man sat next to him on the plane who happened to be a surgeon, about the NHS and world politics!
We landed in thick clouds and rain?…it looked very much like England, until we stepped outside into the 85%humidity! It was a 45 taxi ride to our resort, which we’ve been staying in for the next 5 days.
Hello paradise! The resort includes a 400 acre nature reserve and a 3km long beach. It’s beautiful and the perfect place to ‘drop and flop’.
We’ve had a very relaxing 5 days here, filled with sunshine, swimming, beach walks, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, firefly watching (!) nature treks, lots of good food & drink! It was pretty special to spend an evening watching a tropical lightning storm from our balcony hot tub.
We can now say we don’t remember what day of the week it is and so I think this means we’ve definitely relaxed! ?
The only mishap we had here was the loss of a key, which is somewhere out at sea….another story to add to the collection of lost keys incidents!
Tomorrow we’re getting a flight to Sandakan (from West to north east of Borneo) for our next adventure-to meet the organutans and into the jungle! ?
Borneo’s the second largest island in he world and is made up of 3 countries-Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei-we’re sticking to the Malaysian part for our trip, which we have 21 days to explore.
Some photos taken over the last few days:
Kalamandapam Hall, Kuala Lumpur, discovered after a three hour walk in the sweltering heat through backstreets and motorways:
Final night in Kuala Lumpur:
